Scientists have confirmed that the strongest earthquake to hit Haiti in 200 years registered at magnitude 7.0. The tragedy struck at 16:53:09 or 04:53:09 PM local time on January 12. The brute force of the tremors sent down many a building including the UN office in the country’s capital of Port-au-Prince. The presidential palace was also damaged. At least one hospital is reported to have collapsed along with many commercial buildings, schoolhouses, and other infrastructure.

Word from the International Red Cross places the number of affected people at around 3 million. The IRC also estimated that the earthquake claimed around 500,000 lives. With the country being the poorest in the Western Hemisphere, it surely needs help from other countries, some of which have already dispatched rescue groups to help in the search and rescue missions undertaken across the Caribbean nation.

Pandemonium is in the streets as people are left without homes and their basic necessities. There are also hundreds if not thousands of people left untreated. Doctors and other medical workers are hard at work just to treat as many people as they can. With some hospitals damaged by the earthquake, they have to make do with makeshift triages. It is expected that unless other countries send in needed medicine, there will be a shortage of it soon enough with the number of people needing medical attention.

Immediately after the earthquake struck, communication lines went down. This made organizing search and rescue missions a nightmare. Even with that handicap though, firemen and policemen along with civilians worked well into the night to help free people from under the wreckage of fallen buildings.

It can be remembered that the nation was recently ravished by a series of hurricanes leaving thousands dead and homeless. Still in rebuilding mode, they are once again hit by this tragedy. Fortunately, several countries are quick to send help like medical professionals and rescue units. Numerous countries have also pledged to send monetary aid to help the ravaged island nation.

The biggest news today in collegiate football is the departure of Pete Carroll who has formally joined the Seattle Seahawks. USC fans though would also know who will be at the helm for the Trojans next year. Today, the University of South California announced that Lane Kiffin, a former member of Carroll’s staff will be the head coach next year for the collegiate football juggernaut.

From 2001 until 2006, Lane Kiffin was a member of the USC coaching staff ultimately named as the offensive coordinator of the Trojans in his last year with the team. His works did not go unnoticed as Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders came calling. His stint with the NFL’s Raiders spanned two seasons but can be considered as a failure as the team only managed to win five games in two seasons.

Lane Kiffin’s departure from the Raiders is not as smooth as his departure from Carroll’s staff in USC back in 2006. A heated war of words between Davis and Kiffin accompanied the latter’s departure. From the NFL, Kiffin went back to the college arena with the Tennessee Vols after then head coach Philip Fulmer announced that he will not be returning in 2009.

Kiffin did not exactly have a winning team upon his arrival but he did a good job along with his father Monte. Last year, the Vols recorded a 7-6 record. They also played at the Chick-Fil-A Bowl under Kiffin’s tutelage. After just a year with the Vols though, Kiffin is now headed back to USC where he will be asked to continue Carroll’s work which is very impressive indeed. For nine years, the Trojans only lost 19 games under Carroll and won two national championships. That’s some pretty big shoes to fill. Lane Kiffin USC head coach (formally) will be helped by his father as the defensive coordinator and former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron who will assume the title of recruiting coordinator.

Michael Jackson’s Ghost ?? Caught On Tape (Video Youtube – Utube)

Larry King was doing an interview with Jermaine Jackson(brother of Michael Jackson) at Neverland ranch, and in the tour, they’re showing some parts of the house. However, some unexplainable figure was caught on tape.

If you look at it closely, you will see a shadowy figure walking across the hallway at time frame (0:28 – 0:29)

It was believed to the the ghost of the king of pop, Michael Jackson. See the video below to see the image walk.

Here’s Another Michael Jackson Ghost Video Below

A less creepy image was also seen at the background. However, this one may be debatable. Some say it is just a shadow but hey, you be the judge. See for yourself.
