After suspending eight models in a recall last week for a possible fault in the gas pedal, Toyota is halting its sales and production in the United States and Canada for the time being.
Effective first week of February, the plants in North America located in Indiana, Texas, Kentucky, and Ontario will temporarily stop operation.
Toyota U.S. group vice president Bob Carter said “Toyota is taking the actions to ensure safety and restore confidence in Toyota among consumers.”
The fix is not yet finalized so the recall and the sales suspension is necessary until every concerns regarding customer safety is addressed.
Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles in the US last week to fix the accelerator pedal that could get stuck. It is the second massive recall in four months in the US.
