Canceled flights, closed interstates and beaches pounded by big waves. These are just some of hassles that the strong winds in Ventura County left in Southern California.
An alleged tornado has also tossed a car airborne, dropped into a tree, ragged metal roofs and sent boats off their trailers.
It was identified that the tornado that appeared in Ventura is the smallest category possible, according to the National Weather Service. However, even this category can do serious damage that was evident from the damages it produced.
There was no immediate confirmation from the National Weather Service but there are some witnesses who reported seeing a wind funnel about 1:30 p.m. Thursday and traveled 1 1/2 miles in Ventura. “Radar patters indicated it may have been a non-rotating wind gust called microburst”, said Eric Boldt, a meteorologist.
No injuries were reported.
