“Don’t Call me Liz”. This is what Elizabeth Becton is now famous for. Elizabeth Becton is the scheduler/office manager of Rep. Jim McDermott. She apparently got offended when an executive assistant was confirming an appointment with the congressman emailed her and used “Liz” instead of her full name.
When Ms. Becton got the e-mail with the greeting “Hi Liz”, she replied immediately with “Who is Liz?”. Of course the sender of the email acted quickly and tried to apologize a couple of times but every time an apology email was sent, Elizabeth were insistent and keep on sending a reply highlighting the mistake. My feeling is that she’s rubbing it in.
You should read the entire exchange of message. other people are sending comments and attacking Elizabeth for her reaction.
Here are some of the comments.
Liz should be thrown out on her ear. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Who the hell does she think she is restricting people from seeing their elected representative because she is “addressed properly.” Well heres my address to you, get over yourself, and do the peoples business. – Lizzy
Did I read that right? 19 emails were exchanged because someone tried to be friendly and addressed a woman as ‘Liz’? The guy that hired her needs a new job if she was the best he could find. Good Grief! – Iris
Check out in the one email how she “REALLY” wants to know who was calling her Liz. She wants vengeance. This person has no business being a gatekeeper. She is keeping a perfectly pleasant person from trying to meet her boss. -mb
I’m with LD. I go by Liz with to my friends, but only my friends. If people call me Liz, I politely correct them (ie: “PS: I go by Elizabeth for work purposes. Thanks!”) Elizabeth needs to learn some email etiquette, and realize that people make mistakes- handle them with class.–Another Elizabeth
